Leadershift

Exploring the art of the Protean Leader

In Greek Mythology, the sea god Proteus had the power to both imagine the future and change his shape to deal with the present. From these qualities comes the adjective protean, meaning flexible, versatile, adaptable. The Protean Leader, therefore, combines vision and the ability to balance long-term goals with the practical needs of the moment.

There are thousands of books on leadership, and dozens of recipes for what makes a leader effective – from command-focused, to affiliative, to democratic. However, no single leadership style is right for every situation, for every challenge, for every group. It has been said that no plan survives contact with reality. Might that be true of leadership styles as well?

In this program, you will explore a new kind of leadership, Protean Leadership — an approach to facilitating results through people that recognizes that different situations benefit from different orientations, and that honors the strengths, skills, and ideas of everyone in the room. If you are tired of formulaic approaches to leadership, if you know there is a better way, but have yet to find it, Protean Leadership may be what you’ve been looking for.

Learning Objectives – During this program, participants develop the abilities and skills to describe and practice the concepts of:
